In an announcement made via a Friday post on the official Oculus blog, Oculus and Frontier Developments said that 'Elite: Dangerous' sci-fi game will be a launch title for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset, which is scheduled to hit the markets on March 28, 2016.
The announcement implies that the VR-ready version of Frontier Developments' deep space adventure exploration game 'Elite: Dangerous' will be available at the Oculus Store in coincidence with the March 28 launch of the $599-priced Oculus Rift VR headset.
The Oculus Rift version of the 'Elite: Dangerous' game would be cross-platform title which will also be compatible with Mac, PC and consoles.
In an explanation of the 'cross-platform' aspect of the 'Elite: Dangerous' game, a post published on the official Elite: Dangerous forums by community manager Zac Antonaci has revealed that the game's Rift version would be sold separately; but, it will be given away free to the existing owners of the Elite: Dangerous and Elite: Dangerous Horizons games.
Meanwhile, highlighting the fact that the Elite: Dangerous universe in VR will be a lot more immersive, the developers of the Rift version of the game have revealed that gamers will be able to take the helm of a number of space ships, as well as explore billions of star systems, before eventually emerging victorious in an ever-growing number of battles.
