In a Wednesday published blog post, Facebook-owned virtual reality (VR) firm Oculus has announced the release of new social games, Facebook-sharing capabilities, and other features for the Samsung Gear VR headset, to make the device more social.
Unleashing its new suite of social features for the Samsung Gear VR, Oculus said that, with effect from Thursday, the users of the Gear VR headset will get the ability to create their own user profiles; and also search for friends, by username, to communicate with them in virtual space.
Oculus has also revealed that a dedicated section for Facebook videos will be rolled out to the Samsung Gear VR headset next week. With the help of the new section, Gear VR users will be able to connect their Facebook account to view a feed of 360-degree videos which is personalized on the basis of friends and pages followed by them.
In addition, Gear VR users will also be able to create "rooms" in Oculus Social, to watch Twitch and Vimeo streams with their acquaintances in VR.
Oculus has also announced that two new social games -- 'Social Trivia' and 'Herobound: Gladiators' -- are also being added to Gear VR headset, to enable users to "band together with up to four people to conquer goblins and demons in arena battlefields."
