The U.S. Patent Office has recently published a Ford patent for an 'Autonomous Vehicle Entertainment System.'
The mentioned patent provides details about Ford's innovative plans for future vehicles. Specifically, the patent hints at Ford's idea of offering a giant drop-down projection screen which covers the windshields of a car and displays images from a ceiling-mounted projector; thereby turning the car into a zoomed-in movie theater for the occupants.
The most interesting part of the Ford's plans to offer drop-down projection screen in its future vehicles is that the innovative technology when used in Ford's self-driving cars will give the occupants to watch a movie on their route to a particular destination.
Specifically, the Ford patent describes two different modes for the company's planned in-car movie theater --- a self-driving mode and a manual drive mode. When the car is in self-driving mode, the windshield of the car will be fully covered by the drop-down projection screen; and when the car is in manual drive mode, the projection screen will give way to a more conventional in-dash display.
Meanwhile, in its comments with regard to the patent published by the US Patent Office, Ford said in a statement: "As a technology leader, we submit patents on innovative ideas as a normal course of business. Patent applications are intended to protect new ideas but aren't necessarily an indication of new business or product plans."
