Health experts have warned that the monsoon season in the country might result in the eye-related diseases and advised people not to use medication without expert opinion.
They advised people not to ignore symptoms like redness, swelling or burning sensation in the eyes and consult an ophthalmologist. They said that it is important to get immediate expert opinion because it might be conjunctivitis, corneal ulcer or stye that spread commonly during the rainy season.
Leading ophthalmologists said that people like to enjoy the weather but many people are unaware that even direct contact between the eyes and the rain water may cause problems. They pointed out that corneal ulcers were one of the most serious infections during the monsoon season.
Vishal Dutta, an ophthalmologist at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) said that eye styes were very common during this season and are caused by bacterial infections. He advised people to avoid sharing towels and similar personal items with others. He also said that infections mostly spread through hands, clothes and other common. He advised people to wash hands if they are infected in order to avoid spreading the disease.
