Strong Jobs Data Pushes Dow Jones Towards All-Time High

The U.S. Stock markets jumped on Friday as strong jobs data increased risk appetite among long term investors. Investors are confident that the U.S. economy will report strong growth, backed by strong jobs market. As the U.S. economy depends on consumer spending, strong job market would ensure higher consumer spending in the coming quarters. In June, the U.S. economy added 222,000 jobs. The biggest gains were witnessed in healthcare, professional services, restaurants and government departments, the Labor department report informed.

Ford has announced recall for 15,600 Ford Ikon and Figo cars in South African market due to fire risk. The vehicles sold in South Africa were manufactured at Ford facility in India between year 2004 and 2012. Ford said that the company will offer free replacement for vehicles impacted in the current recall.

The company said that due to a risk of leakage of power steering fluid, there is a chance of fumes being emitted from the engine compartment. This can lead to further damage and fire in extreme cases, the official statement informed.

A promising study has suggested that broccoli can be potential weapon against type 2 diabetes as it contains an ingredient that can help control blood sugar levels.

Researchers found that sulforaphane, a chemical in cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and sprouts, has shown to drag down glucose levels in lab experiments on diabetic rats.

The research team used computer models to identify gene changes linked with the diabetes, and sifted through thousands of chemicals in order to identify suitable compounds that might reverse those changes.

A team of researchers from the University of Otago found that the population of Yellow-eyed penguin on the New Zealand mainland is shrinking dramatically. Between 1996 and 2013, the species has lost more than 75 per cent of its population.

Waymo partners with Lyft to develop autonomous vehicles

Alphabet’s driverless car division Waymo LLC has confirmed that it will work in partnership with ride-hailing startup Lyft Inc. to develop autonomous vehicles.

Without elaborating specifically on the terms of the partnership, Waymo and Lyft announced on Sunday that they would work together to develop products and technology for self-driving vehicles.

The deal is being seen as an effort of the two companies’ effort to deal a blow to rival firm Uber Technologies’ similar ambitions.

British officials applaud cyber specialist for halting ransomware cyber attack

Cybersecurity officials in United Kingdom have applauded a young cyber specialist for helping halt the global ransomware cyber-attack.

Britain’s National Cyber Security Center (NCSC) announced that the cyber specialist, known as Malware Tech, prevented further spreading of the ransomware by registering a domain name. The action has already prevented more than 100,000 potential infections.

In a tweet on Saturday, the anonymous cyber specialist/researcher acknowledged that he initially did not know that his action would help stop the malware.

With some recently announced versatile new features on board, Google Maps for the Android platform has gotten a slight remake.

Despite the arrival of the new features, Google Maps basically functions in the same way as users know. However, the company has smartly integrated some “Street View” features straight into the navigation view.

When a user asks it for directions, he/she can swipe up from the bottom of the app’s screen to make out all the turn-by-turn steps as before. However, now each of those steps comes accompanied by a Street View picture of that exact turn.
