Apple ignored its Maps app at its WWDC event last week

At its WWDC event in San Francisco last week, tech giant Apple announced a horde of noteworthy updates across different parts of its business , but one business which was did not receive much attention from the company at the event was Apple Maps.

Apple had tried to take on the long-in-use Google Maps app when it had released its own Maps product two years back. However, Apple Maps turned out to be a disaster; with the product being too lackluster to pose any threat at all to Google Maps.

Though it was being expected that the evident failure of the Apple Maps app will prompt Apple to make attempts and updated and improve the product, the company actually showed at the WWDC event that the Maps product has apparently been sidelined.

The only mention which Apple made with regard to its Maps app at the WWDC event was the disclosure that the company now offers vector maps and other improvements in China. In addition, the company also said that a new feature in its latest iOS version - iOS 8 - will enable venue owners to add more indoor positioning data.

Despite the fact that a 9to5Mac report ahead of the WWDC event had claimed that Apple was updating the Maps app, the product was clearly ignored at the event. Revealing that "there were multiple (Maps-related) improvements that didn't make it into iOS8," an unidentified 'inside' sources told TechCrunch: "Many developers left the company, no map improvements planned for iOS 8 release were finished in time."
