Sprint matches T-Mobile's pre-paid plan with its own

According to a Bloomberg report, third-ranking US wireless carrier Sprint has recently matched rival T-Mobile's pre-paid plan with one of its own.

The pre-paid plan announced by Sprint reportedly matches the pre-paid plan offered by its closest rival T-Mobile, which is the fourth-ranking carrier in the country. The launch of the new plan by Sprint comes amid the ongoing talks for a potential merger of Sprint and T-Mobile.

Sprint's pre-paid plan gives the carrier's customers the advantage of unlimited messaging and calling on 500MB of high-speed data. Meanwhile, about the $50 2.5GB data option, Sprint said it will retain that option as it is. The carrier also offers $60 option with 5GB.

The Sprint pre-paid plan takes on T-Mobile's $40 pre-paid plan which the carrier offers via its MetroPCS entity.

The Bloomberg report has, citing the information shared by Sprint's pay-as-you-go service chief Dow Draper, revealed that Sprint apparently has efforts underway to offer plans with more variety.

Noting that Sprint is "shifting away from a one-size-fits-all approach to a more stratified set of plans," Draper said: "Prepaid has always been very competitive. After the first quarter we decided to broaden our offering."
