Woman collapses after wearing Tight Jeans for longer period

Woman collapses after squatting in her Skinny Jeans

While reporting a case of a woman whose pair of skinny jeans had to be cut out after she temporarily lost movement in her legs, Australian doctors have warned that skinny jeans can prove fatal for health.

The 35-year-old woman spent many hours squatting empty cupboards for a house move in Australia. By evening, she felt numbness in her legs and could walk. She collapsed and was taken to hospital where her jeans were cut after her calves swollen in size.

In the case reported in the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery & Psychiatry, doctors stated that she was wearing tight skinny jeans. "Later that evening, she experienced numbness in her feet and found it difficult to walk, which caused her to trip and fall. Unable to get up, she spent several hours lying on the ground before she was found", the journal said.

The woman could not move her ankles and toes properly and had lost feelings in her lower legs and feet. Doctors put a drip and after four days, the woman was able to walk again. Doctors at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, South Australia said that wearing skinny jeans and performing squatting reduced blood supply to the leg muscles leading the woman to face such a condition.

Also, nerve fibres that connect to the lower legs got damaged by prolonged compression causing the woman to face numbness and loss of control. The take home message is if one has to perform squatting then wear something loose, with more elasticity.
