Vancouver Team Rescues Rare False Killer Whale Calf

A team from the Vancouver Aquarium has rescued a rare false killer whale calf after it washed up on a beach near Tofino. It was said in a press release that the young female whale was found on North Chesterman Beach Thursday morning.

Condition of the whale was very bad and staff members from the aquarium's Marine Mammal Rescue Centre were sent to better the plight of the whale.

The whale was taken to the rescue centre in Vancouver Thursday evening where the creature was given treatment. Aquarium staff is likely to reveal the calf's condition on Friday morning. It rarely happens when the smaller, dark-colored dolphins are spotted north of the US border on the west coast.

A team from the Vancouver Aquarium's Marine Mammal Rescue Centre is making serious efforts to save the life of the small cetacean as its condition is not well.

The false killer whale is different from the average killer whale (Orcinus orca) and is a member of the dolphin family. This type of whale is not usually seen in BC water.

The centre plays a very significant role in rescuing stranded marine mammals and rehabilitating them so that they can be again sent back to their natural habitat after improvement in health condition.
