Twitter launches an app for Amazon’s Alexa voice platform

On Friday, popular microblogging service Twitter announced that it is launching a new app for Amazon’s Alexa voice platform. The launch of an Alexa app by Twitter means that the Alexa digital assistant can be used by Twitter users to have their tweets read out to them.

Announcing the launch of the new Alexa app, Twitter said that the app will give Twitter users the ability to listen to latest information from Twitter directly on the Amazon Echo speaker or any other Alexa-powered device,

Twitter said that the app will essentially give users general information on trends, or deliver information from their accounts, or provide more general information -- such as the current trends or the local trends -- from Twitter’s service.

In its description of the Alexa app, Twitter said that users can get started with the app after authenticating with their Twitter accounts; and then launching the app by saying, “Alexa, open Twitter.”

Once the Alexa app has been launched, Twitter users can benefit from the capabilities of the virtual assistant by asking it read their home Timeline to them, as well as their Retweets, Likes, and Mentions.
