Super Moon to make Full Harvest Moon look bigger and brighter

Final “Super Moon” of 2014 will be seen on Monday along with the Full Harvest Moon. This celestial event will be seen nearly at 1:24 a.m. EDT on September 9. The Full Harvest moon will appear to be even brighter and bigger because it will be a “Super Moon.”

Experts say that the term “Super Moon” is a phenomenon when the moon is closer to earth. Scientifically, this phenomenon is called perigee, in which the moon is closest to earth. They also believe that super moon is supposed to be 30 time bigger and almost 14% brighter than a normal full moon. This will be third “Super Moon” of this year.

The Full harvest Moon’s name was given originally by farmers. During the times when electricity was not available everywhere, farmers were dependent on the moonlight to harvest their crops.

The Harvest Moon occurs when the summer is towards it ending term and when fall is about to begin. Experts said that this year, the event was expected to occur on September 23 but it has arrived earlier.

Report says that the moon occurring from September 7 to 9 will be different each day. It unveiled that the moon rises about 50 minutes later each day, throughout the year. But, when the Full harvest moon occurs, the gaps between the moonrise are reduced.

NASA also reported that for all those sky gazers who want to witness this celestial event from the beach should know that there will be a 4.5 foot high tide occurring at around 7:05 p.m. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time). They also shared that those who want to enjoy the view to its best must find a place away from the artificial lightening and clouds should not be covering the sky.

On a supermoon night, the moon is very near the horizon and passes through more dust and cloud particles. These dust and cloud particles scatter blue light and let the red light to pass through, which is the reason why the harvest Moon looks yellow, orange, or red.
