Software bug caused disruption in some Google searches early Tuesday

According to reports, a software bug apparently caused the disruption of some Google searches approximately for eight hours on Tuesday.

As a result of the disruption, the Google searches hit by the software bug showed multiple images of what apparently looked like a car crash in Russia; thereby fueling the speculation that Google had been hacked.

The multiple images showed up in response to several Google searches made on the images feature early Tuesday. Though not all Google searches were affected, the images showed a badly crashed car close to a sign which said 'Stop' in Russian. It is not yet clear whether the image of the smashed car had been altered.

The disruption caused to some Google searches by the software bug triggered rumors of the Internet search engine having possibly been hit by a hacking attack. As per the rumors, the hackers had infiltrated Google for spreading propaganda pertaining to the ongoing scuffle between government forces and pro-Russian rebels in Ukraine.

The issue was later fixed by Google, which also extended an apology for the disruption. An unidentified source familiar with the matter revealed that the disruption was caused by a software bug inside Google.
