Second total lunar eclipse to take place early morning Oct. 8

Early risers on Wednesday, October 8, will be able to witness the second and final total lunar eclipse of this year.

The final total lunar eclipse of 2014 will take place at 4:15 a. m. EST as the Moon, Earth's only natural satellite, will enter the outer reaches of the planet's shadow.

The lunar eclipse will remain for more than a couple of hours as Earth's shadow will crawl slowly across the face of the Moon. According to scientists' estimates, the eclipse will come to an end at 6:25 a. m. The total eclipse will last for around 59 minutes.

The first total lunar eclipse took place in April this year. The upcoming eclipse will be the final total lunar eclipse of 2014.

In addition to the lunar eclipse, sky watchers will be able to see big and bodacious Moon at 3:42 a. m. on October 6, when the natural satellite will be at perigee (closest to the Earth). At perigee, it will be just around 225,715 miles away from Earth.

Fred Espenak, a retired NASA astrophysicist, said that mileage would certify the satellite as a super Moon, which would appear particularly vivid, large and bright.
