Report: Majority of US smartphone users do not download new apps regularly

In a Thursday-released 'US Mobile App Report,' digital measurement and analytics firm comScore has detailed a number of trends which show the manner - and also the purpose - in which US smartphone users interact with apps on their devices.

According to the comScore report, the no new apps are being downloaded by the majority of smartphone users in the US. However, a small - yet active - section of the US smartphone users download eight or more new apps every month.

The comScore statics have revealed that, in a typical month, nearly 65.5 percent of the smartphone users in the country do not download any new apps. Nonetheless, out of the remaining smartphone users, a small segment - 2.4 percent, to be precise - apparently keeps adding eight or more new apps on a monthly basis. Overall, the monthly app downloads by the small segment of US smartphone users equate to an average number of downloads of "slightly more than one" app a month. In addition, "nearly half of all download activity in a given month" can be attributed to the top 7 percent of the small segment of users that download apps each month.

Noting that the fact that the majority of US smartphone users do not add new apps regularly is not at all surprising, comScore marketing insights analyst Adam Lella said: "People have limited storage space on their phones. You can't just indiscriminately download any app that you see."
