Red wine and fruits can help improve sex life, study

According to a new study, a diet with red wine and fruits can significantly helplower the risk of impotence and improve sex life of people.

The team of researchers at research by the University of East Anglia and Harvard University said that eating handful of berries three times a week or a few glasses of red wine can be as effective in treating erectile dysfunction as Viagra. They said that eating fruits boosts sexual function as much as walking for five hours a week due to natural compounds called flavanoids and anthycyanins that are present in fruits.

These compounds are also found in cherries, blackberries, radishes, blackcurrants and blueberries. The researchers also said that citrus fruits contain chemicals called flavanones and flavones that have a similar effect on the sexual function. The researchers found that flavanoids found in these fruits were able to help reduce impotence by 14 per cent. They said that combining a diet rich in flavanoidwith walking will result in an even greater improvement in combating erectile dysfunction.

Lead researcher Professor Aedin Cassidy, from the University of East Anglia, said: 'We already knew that intake of certain foods high in flavonoids may reduce the risk of conditions including diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This is the first study to look at the association between flavonoids and erectile dysfunction, which affects up to half of all middle-aged and older men.Flavonoids are present in many plant-based foods and drinks including fruits, vegetables, tea, herbs and wine."
