Recently “leaked” Nintendo DX controller photos were faked

Two pranksters who scammed Nintendo fans with supposedly “leaked” photos a yet-to-be-announced Nintendo controller last week have recently admitted that the photos had been faked by them with the help of Photoshop and 3D printing.

Since 3D printing and Photoshop can enable users to create almost anything, the two pranksters -- David Im and Frank Sandqvist -- faked the photos of the unannounced Nintendo NX controller in different ways, and “leaked” the photos online last week.

The first fake photo of the Nintendo NX controller was created by Im and posted on Reddit. For the somewhat fuzzy fake photo, which showed a device that closely resembled a Nintendo patent filing, Im simply added a 3D model to an image in Photoshop.

Inspired by the photo posted by Im, Sandqvist -- who is the co-founder of CNC Design in Finland -- created a second set of notably clearer fake photos of the supposed Nintendo NX controller, and also posted the photos on Rediit.

Sandqvist created the fake photos by 3D-printing the majority of the phony Nintendo NX controller, and used laser-cut black acrylic for the screen and front-facing camera. He then used some black spray paint, added the ‘display’ and a few labels, clicked a few photos, and posted them on Reddit.
