Pokémon Trading Card Game to be available as iPad app later this year
It has been recently confirmed by The Pokémon Company - Nintendo's wholly owned subsidiary - that it has plans underway to make the Pokémon Trading Card Game available as an iPad app later this year. The app will mark a digital upgrade of the 1996-launched trading card game of the same name.
The imminent availability of the Pokémon Trading Card Game as an iOS app was first reported by Polygon, after the app was spotted by Twitter user and Pokémaniac Josh Wittenkeller at a Play! Pokémon event.
The arrival of the Pokémon Trading Card Game on Apple's iOS platform marks an expansion of the availability of the game on to the mobile services. The game is currently available on Windows PC and Mac.
With the availability of the Pokémon Trading Card Game as an iPad app, it will be for the first time that an actual, proper Pokémon game will make its way to the popular Apple tablet device.
Meanwhile, with an earlier Nikkei report having revealed that Nintendo is apparently eyeballing mobile devices, the forthcoming availability of the Pokémon Trading Card Game as an iPad app is a move which suggests that Nintendo plans to bring mini-games on to smart devices, in an effort to entice gamers to its console products.
