NPD: Pokémon GO has led to an increase in mobile battery pack sales

In a recently published report, analytics company NPD Group has revealed that the sales of mobile battery packs have witnessed a notable increase after the launch of the hugely popular augmented reality (AR) mobile game Pokémon GO. The game was launched by Nintendo and Niantic Labs last month.

According to the NPD report, the sales of portable battery packs for mobile devices have been on the increase after the Pokémon GO launch because gamers charge up their smartphones and tablets so as to ensure that their Pokémon trainer journey continues uninterrupted.

The statistics revealed by the NPD Group in its recent report show that the two-week period between July 10 and July 23 recorded a whopping 101 percent increase in the portable battery pack unit sales, as compared to the same period last year.

Further, highlighting the fact that mobile battery packs have been witnessing a strong demand this year, the NPD report said that the strong demand resulted in a 35 percent year-on-year increase in mobile battery packs for the 12
-month period ending June 2016.

The report also added: "In the six weeks leading up to Pokémon Go's launch, unit sales were just four percent above the same period a year ago. However, in the two weeks since the game launched, sales of portable power packs reached nearly 1.2 million units, representing a marked increase in sales growth."
