NPD Group: Nintendo 3DS handheld topped hardware and software sales charts in July
According to the latest statistics released by the analysis firm NPD Group, Nintendo’s 3DS handheld gaming console bagged the top-notch position on the gaming hardware and software sales charts in the month of July.
The latest NPD Group data shows that July 2016 was a very good month for Nintendo in terms of mobile gaming. The company’s 3DS handheld system ranked on top in gaming hardware as well as software sales during the month; with the 3DS lineup – comprising the New 3DS, 3DS XL and 2DS consoles – recording a whopping 80 percent year-on-year increase in sales.
In addition, the sales of Pokémon Omega Red and Alpha Sapphire -- the newest console titles in the franchise -- also witnessed 80 percent increase year-on-year.
So far as the other Pokémon console games are concerned, the NPD statistics show that the October 2013-launched Pokémon X and Pokémon Y saw their sales in the month of July increase by a staggering 200 percent as compared to the sales in the same month last year.
In terms of overall software sales in July, the titles released for Nintendo’s gaming consoles bagged five of the top 11 spots. The top-ranking games for Nintendo systems included Monster Hunter Generations; Minecraft: Wii U edition; Kirby: Planet Robot; and Pokemon Omega Ruby and Sapphire.
