Just two weight-loss programs effective: Study

If you want to lose those extra fats, here’s news for you. According to new study from Johns Hopkins University, just two programs, Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers, are supported by substantial data. The data proves that these two programs are more effective than all alone dieting or outside counsel.

The researchers looked into 4,200 studies of commercial programs for solid evidence of effectiveness because obesity is a growing problem and a large number of patients look for solutions. Just a few dozen studies met the scientific ‘gold standard’ in testing or randomized clinical trials through late 2014.

According to Kimberly Gudzune, MD, MPH, an assistant professor of medicine and weight-loss specialist at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, there was not much evidence to conclude which weight-loss programs are more effective in losing weight after one year than those trying to lose it by on-your-own diet.

According to the researchers, "Clinicians could consider referring patients who are overweight or obese to Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. Other popular programs, such as NutriSystem, show promising weight-loss results, but additional studies evaluating long-term outcomes are needed".
