Jaguar unveils AI-based self-driving steering wheel

Luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled its new artificial-intelligence (AI)-based steering wheel that can be featured in the company’s self-driving cars in the future. The AI-based steering wheel dubbed Sayer would not be used to steer the car; rather it would serve as a system capable of hooking up with the autonomous/self-driving car a person is travelling in.

Unlike other self driving concepts that are removing the steering wheel as well as pedals, Jaguar decided to retain the steering wheel, albeit as a portable device that can be carried from one vehicle to another.

In a press release, the company said, “Sayer is the first voice-activated artificial intelligence (AI) steering wheel that will be able to carry out hundreds of tasks. Sayer could signal your membership of our on-demand service club … even advise which parts of the journey you might enjoy.”

The AI-based steering wheel, which will serve as a concierge as well as a warning system, will be featured in the company’s upcoming concept car, dubbed the Future-Type.
