Hollywood Celebrities Unite for Cancer Fund Raiser Event

The American Cancer Society announced its plans in January to work hand-in-hand with Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C), a group that aims at supporting the latest research to develop a new treatment as soon as possible. They called this collaboration as “dream team”, which has its first project aimed at collecting an amount of nearly $20 million in funding to conduct researches on lung cancer - one of the most commonly found cancers in the US men and women.

In order to accomplish the goal of the first project, thousands of volunteers and cancer survivors from both the groups staged around 200 telethon parties across the nation on Friday. Many Hollywood celebrities also became part of the telethon on Friday.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Katie Couric, Reese Witherspoon, Pierce Brosnan, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Jon Hamm, Sofia Vergara, Jessica Alba and Kevin Bacon were among many celebrities who participated in the Stand Up to Cancer fund raiser event held at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre.

Sources reported that this event was broadcasted live and commercial free on the major networks like ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX including 29 cable stations. It was also broadcasted live on Hulu and Yahoo.

Hollywood actors and actresses were seen encouraging people to raise funds. Jennifer Aniston, who was also present at the event, was seen motivating people to make their contribution towards the noble cause.

Viewers who were watching the event live were also encouraged to make donations through the ‘Stand Up To Cancer' website or through phone banks monitored by celebrities. Josh Gad, Joe Manganiello, Mira Sorvino, Rob Riggle and Jesse Tyler Ferguson were among the celebs personally handling the callers and the online participants.

Organizers said that the results of the fundraiser event will be announced on Sunday. Featured speaker Margarita Lopez of Fairfield, a breast cancer survivor and veteran of Vacaville's Relay for Life events in June at Vacaville High, said collaboration of both the groups is a “beautiful partnership”.
