Harmonix: Upcoming Rock Band 4 expansion will bring synchronous online multiplayer
In an announcement made at the PAX East panel, game developer Harmonix has revealed that an expansion will be rolled out for ‘Rock Band 4’ sometime during the “holiday 2016” period.
According to Harmonix, the forthcoming expansion for Rock Band 4 will come with the addition of synchronous online multiplayer to the game.
The announcement of the imminent availability of synchronous online multiplayer to Rock Band 4, as a result of an upcoming expansion, is noteworthy. The game started shipping on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2015; and one of the most prominent features which it lacked was online multiplayer.
The synchronous online multiplayer for Rock Band 4 has been a much demanded feature from the game’s fans ever since its launch last year. About the lack of the feature at launch, project manager Daniel Sussman had said last year that there were a number of technical obstacles to be overcome before the feature could be delivered.
With the Rock Band 4 expansion and the online multiplayer for the game coming this holiday season, Criss Burki -- Harmonix community manager -- said in a PlayStation Blog post: “Synchronous online multiplayer will be like Quickplay, modified to provide a fair and streamlined experience for console friends looking to play Rock Band 4 together online.”
