Google creates doodle for Earth day

Internet giant, Google is marking the annual Earth Day with a special interactive doodle on its search home page.

The doodle includes "a totally scientific and 1,000 per cent accurate personality quiz." The doodle tells you the animal that most likely represents your personality. The Google Doodle shows a spinning globe and a selection of endangered plant and animal species. The users can click on the screen and get a quiz to determine their "spirit animal".

Earth Day is celebrated every year on 22 April and events are organised around the world to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The first Earth Day was celebrated on 1970 and more than 20 million Americans took part in events and rallies across the country to spread environmental awareness. About a billion people are expected to take part in the occasion. The events are now coordinated by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 192 countries each year.

"Once you've gotten to know your deepest self, we hope you're also inspired to help make a real difference this Earth Day," said the Earth Day Doodle team in a blog post.

Google has also agreed to donate the same amount that is raised by a selection of organisations including the Jane Goodall Institute, Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, World Wildlife Fund, WildAid, Zoological Society of London and Virunga Fund. This means that if a dollar is donated to an institution, Google will also donate a dollar to that organisation aiming to protect the environment.
