Facebook launches new feature to allow users to officially endorse a 2016 presidential candidate
In a Tuesday announcement, social network Facebook said that it is launching a new endorsement feature, which will give Facebook users the ability to officially endorse a 2016 presidential candidate.
The launch of the endorsement feature by Facebook marks the latest effort by the company to ensure a deeper level of user involvement.
The endorsement feature launched by Facebook essentially enables users to go to the Facebook page of their favourite 2016 presidential candidate. The page comes with an endorsement button which can be clicked by users to inform others of their political choice. Users also have to add a few words, revealing the reason behind their choice of a particular presidential candidate.
If the endorsement of a 2016 presidential candidate is made fully public by a user, the candidate endorsed by the user can use the endorsement on his or her own page.
About the launch of the endorsement feature by Facebook, Samidh Chakrabarti – the company’s product manager for civic engagement – said: "Similar to how politicians, newspapers, and organizations endorse candidates for elected office, this feature allows anyone on Facebook to do the same."
