Early Intervention Currently Best Hope of Treatment for Autism

Despite being such a devastating disease, autism remains highly misunderstood by the society. Due to this factor, many children do not get diagnosed early when there is the best hope for the treatment.

Autism Spectrum Disorder can be termed as set of multiple disorders happening to one person. Autism takes place during the first three years of life and leads to impairments in social communication, interaction and imaginative skills.

These people do look normal physically, but their gestures do give a hint of problem in them. Dr. Peter Ogunnubi, psychiatrist at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital said there are different ranges to this condition.

"Autistic children are usually characterized by a few inabilities such as not returning people's glances if they are glanced at, they do not lift their hands to be carried", said Ogunnubi. These people also have problem adjusting to social life. Moreover, if one witnesses an autistic child in an environment then it can be known to he may not relate well with other children.

Communication problem remains to be a persistent one. Children affected with autism will have a restricted and repetitive behaviour. Another very important thing is if they like a particular thing, then they will repeat it over and over.

These signals will help parents to know about the early signs of autism and they can take quick help from experts. As per experts, early intervention is the said to be best hope of treatment for the persons affected.

But due to reduced awareness levels about the disease, children do not get diagnosed early enough when intervention works the best.
