Dell teases its ‘Smart Desk’ creativity workstation

At Adobe’s MAX conference presently underway at the San Diego Convention Center, bigwig PC maker Dell teased its innovative new ‘Smart Desk’ creativity-focused desktop solution.

The Smart Desk creativity workstation was teased by Dell in a 90-second video which was shown ahead of a keynote speech at the MAX conference. The video highlighted the dual-display design of the Smart Desk as well as an input device strikingly similar to Microsoft Surface Dial.

In addition, the video also showed the use of the Dell Smart Desk in situations similar to those in which Microsoft’s new Surface Studio desktop-tablet hybrid may be used. These situations included illustration, editing of photos and video, and multi-hand media manipulation.

However, according to the indications from the video, the Smart Desk will apparently differ from Microsoft Surface Studio in the sense that while the latter is a desktop which converts to a high-definition touch and pen input slate, the former will likely have the two separated. From the dual-screen set-ups shown in the video, it appears that the touchscreen is an accessory, not a standalone computer.

Meanwhile, though Dell has thus far not divulged any details about the specifications, expected pricing, and availability of the Smart Desk, the company has said in a press release that the Smart Desk can be described as a “workplace of the future concept.”
