China planning to launch 20 space missions this year

Space industry experts in China have said that the country is planning to launch 40 different spacecraft into orbit through 20 separate launches this year.

They said that one of the vessels to be launched is Yuanzheng 1, which is also called 'space bus' that can launch 10 different satellites at once. China launched 16 spacecraft during 2013 and established itself as an emerging space power. China became the third country in the world to independently launch a manned mission into space on the Shenzhou 5 in October, 2013.

A China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation spokesperson has said that it will launch 'communication satellites' orbiting at around 36,000ft. Director of the Space Department Zhao Xiaojin said that the country will also launch some remote sensing satellitesas well as navigation satellites.

They also hinted that the country will test number of 'cutting edge' technologies this year including Yuanzheng 1. The Yuanzheng 1 is the country's largest rocket with a diameter of 5.2 meters. It will have to be assembled at site as it is too large to be transported safely. Its engine is capable of restarting over 20 times and is thought to be 75 per cent more efficient than spacecraft of the same size.
