Cameron warns against politicizing NHS

David Cameron

David Cameron has warned against politicizing A&E crisis as it becomes a burning election issue. Ed Miliband and David Cameron are engaged in battle over the issue. Miliband accused his rival stating that it can become an issue because of the decision. The Tory warned against making NHS as a political issue.

Circle Healthcare recently announced its decision to withdraw from its contract to run Hinchingbrooke in Cambridgeshire. The Hinchingbrooke in Cambridgeshire is the only privately managed NHS hospital in the country and the decision by the company to withdraw is a major blow to the government's plans to include private firms in running the hospitals. The company announced its decision just before regulator announced that Hinchingbrooke was being placed in special measures NHS hospitals have declared major incidents in recent days as they struggle to cope with the rising level of winter demand.Dr Peter Carter, the representative of Britain's nurses, said that there is immense pressure put on A&E departments over the Christmas and New Year period and this has resulted in full capacity for the NHS hospitals.

Senior officials said that hospitals declared major incidents regularly during the previous month due to high demand.Major incidents are usually rare and are declared when bed capacity has been reached or is almost utilised. Some hospitals also call it "black alert" when they are full capacity. Nurses said that some patients were being moved to inappropriate settings such as surgical wards, or kept overnight in A&E departments due to shortage of beds at hospitals.
