Blood test to detect cancer types in future, experts

Medical experts have said that a single blood test might be able to detect several types of cancers in the future.

Researchers have identified more than 800 markers in the blood of cancer patients that can allow a single blood test to detect many types of cancer in future. In the new study conducted at National Cancer Research Institute
(NCRI) Cancer Conference in Liverpool, the researchers reviewed cancer-specific blood markers for the first time and identified for further clinical development.

Professor Ian Cree, a Cancer Research UK funded scientist at the University of Warwick and University Hospital in Coventry and the authort of the study said that it is new approach to detect cancer early. He said that it is the first time that a systematic review had been conducted. He pointed out that a single blood test will be able to detect many types of cancer and this will help make the disease curable for many more patients.

Sara Hiom, Cancer Research UK's director of early diagnosis said that it is an innovative and new approach but it is still in its early stages and more research is needed on the matter.
