Australia to face hot days and less rainfall due to climate change

Experts have said in a new study that Australia is likely to face hotter days and a fall in the level of rainfall during the coming century.

They said that during the coming one hundred years climate change will impact Australia's weather outlook significantly. The estimates, which were prepared jointly by the CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology, were released on Tuesday. They said that the average annual rainfall in Australia is expected to fall and extreme rain events will become more likely across the country.

CSIRO principal research scientist Kevin Hennessy said, “There is very high confidence that hot days will become more frequent and hotter. We also have very high confidence that sea levels will rise, oceans will become more acidic, and snow depths will decline.”

The country will face less frequent but more intense tropical cyclones and harsher fire weather starting from 2030. Data shows that Australia's average surface air temperature has risen by 0.9C since 1910 and many hear records have been broken in recent years. Experts also noted that sea level has risen about 20 centimetres during the previous one hundred years.
