April’s baby is kicking, just not coming out: zoo officials say
For millions of animal lovers, day begins and ends with a check on April the giraffe as the pregnant creature is showing no sign of going into active labor well after she was initially expected to give birth.
Veterinarian at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, N.Y., said in a new statement that April and her baby are healthy. However, they also expressed concern that it is not coming out.
In the newly released update, zoo officials said, “Well Giraffe Fans, here we are approaching another weekend without a giraffe calf… She [April] is big, full of milk, baby is kicking, just not coming out!”
On Feb. 23, zoo officials started streaming on YouTube showing the female giraffe preparing to deliver a baby. The live stream went viral, and more than 100,000 people are watching her at any given point of time.
April is 15 years old and her partner Olly is much younger than her. The eagerly-awaited calf will be April’s 4th and Olly’s first baby. April has never lost a calf nor experienced a stillborn.
