Apple reports “record” results for 2014 April-June quarter

Apple reports “record” results for 2014 April-June quarter

On Tuesday, Apple reported strong results for the 2014 April-June quarter; mainly due to the robust sales of iPhones, especially older models.

Despite the fact that the April-June quarter is generally a somewhat sleepy quarter for Apple - as it precedes the company's typical `product launch' quarter; with new Apple devices mostly launched in September - the company has surprisingly posted "record" results for the June quarter.

Going by the figures released by Apple during its earnings call on Tuesday, the company's revenue during the reporting quarter was $37.4 billion; and its net profit was $7.4 billion. In addition, Apple's earnings per share during the quarter increased to its highest rate in the last seven quarters.

Although it is widely speculated that Apple will launch its next-generation iPhone in September, the company witnessed a 13 percent year-on-year increase in the sales of iPhones, which touched 35.2 million units during the quarter.

A substantial percentage of the iPhone models sold in the April-June quarter were iPhone 5 and iPhone 4S models, which were the most popular second-hand phone models in the US during the January-March quarter. Moreover, even the sales of the budget iPhone 5C model in the April-June quarter were quite impressive.
