Apple reportedly adding ‘gold’ color option to iPad Air to boost sales

Bloomberg has revealed in a Tuesday report that the next-generation version of Apple's full-size iPad Air tablet will have a new color option --- 'gold.'

The report, based on the information shared by unidentified sources familiar with Apple's plans, said that 'gold' will be added by Apple as a new color choice for the rear metal cover of the new 9.7-inch iPad Air tablet which the company is likely to unveil this month.

The 'gold' color option for the new iPad Air will come in addition to the two existing color choices for the tablet --- silver and gray. Apple's move to add the 'gold' iPad Air color option will bring its flagship tablet up to speed with the color options available for the company's iPhone handset.

As per the Bloomberg sources, the new 'gold' color option has been added by Apple for the next-generation iPad Air tablet in an apparent attempt to give a boost to a category which has posted declining shipments this year.

According to the statistics, the Apple iPad has been witnessing a plunge in sales in the last two quarters. While the sales of the iPad had soared to $5 billion when the tablet was first launched in 2010, and had touched a whopping $30 billion in 2012. Last year, the sales of the device generated $32 billion.
