Apple rebuffs Chinese media’s allegations that iPhone is a threat to China’s sec

In a bilingual statement posted on Apple's China website on Sunday, the US tech giant rebuffed the allegations of the Chinese state media that the iPhone's location-tracking functionality poses a threat to China's national security.

Apple's statement has come against the backdrop of the fact that China's national broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) had said in a July 11 program - which was televised country-wide - that the location-tracking software of the Apple iPhone may result in a leak of state secrets.

CCTV had said in the program that Apple's iOS7 software as well as its 'Frequent Location' service is capable of collecting and analyzing location data automatically, even when iPhone users turn off the functionality on their handsets.

However, denying the allegations, Apple said that the company has never tracked the location of iPhone users, and does not intend doing any such thing in the future too. Apple said that iPhone users have to make the choice to enable their handsets to calculate their locations.

In the statement on its China website, Apple said: "Apple has never worked with any government agency from any country to create a backdoor in any of our products or services. We have also never allowed access to our servers."
