Amazing Fight between Seal and Octopus Draws Several Onlookers

Photographer Bob Ianson was strolling at Ogden Point in British Columbia with his family when he noticed a seal with the octopus’ tentacles wrapped around it.

Ianson, 59, from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, said that he was amazed to see that both of them were fighting. A crowd of onlookers were equally amazed and clicked pictures and even captured videos.

Ianson said that the seal would be around four-and-a-half feet long. During their tiff, the fighting pair came within a metre of the shore last Monday. The seal regularly eats octopus and won the fight at the end.

As per experts, Giant Pacific Octopuses can be of 50 pounds. Ianson was of the view that there is denying in the fact that cephalopod put up a great show and bravely fought against his attacker during the fight for survival.

“The third time he came back up, the octopus was wrapped around the seal ... The octopus literally had the entire head of the seal”, affirmed Ianson. The fight attracted many spectators and as mentioned above, the seal remained proved victorious chomping down on the eight-legged animal.

Ianson said that it is very rare that they are able to see a seal-octopus fight. Vancouver Aquarium’s research biologist Chad Nordstrom was of the view that generally seals in the harbour eat octopus. However, there is no denying in the fact to catch such a battle on camera. The aquarium has 1 photograph of the fight between two animals.
