The New York Times has revealed in a Monday report that online retail giant Amazon has slashed the cost of its 32GB Fire Phone to a shocking 99 cents. The handset - which marked Amazon's foray into the samrtphone arena - was launched in July, with its original retail price being $199 with a service contract.

Announcing the drastic price-cut for the Fire Phone, Amazon has announced that the cost of the handset - which is available only on AT&T - has now been reduced to merely 99 cents with a two-year AT&T contract includes a year of 'free' Amazon Prime membership.

According to a Wall Street Journal report, Sprint's new CEO Marcelo Claure has revealed in a Thursday announcement that the third-ranking US wireless carrier has efforts underway to roll out new, cheaper pricing plans.

As per the WSJ report, the cheaper plans which Sprint intends to offer may either include lower-priced plans or much bigger allotments of wireless data or both.

US wireless carrier Verizon has recently released its latest transparency report, which shows that during the first six months of 2014, the carrier received approximately 150,000 US government requests for customer data.

In the transparency report released on Tuesday, Verizon said that federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in the US sent 72,342 subpoenas, 37,327 court orders, and 14,977 warrants to the company during the period between January and June 2014.
