Leftists remind lawmakers of significance of science

Thousands of leftists took to the streets in Washington D.C. and several other parts of the nation on Saturday to remind lawmakers of the significance of science for health and prosperity.

Renowned scientific revolutionary Bill Nye, a holder of mechanical-engineering-degree who got famous as a children’s TV presenter, served as a keynote speaker at the “March for Science” event.

Addressing a big crowd, he said, “We are marching today to remind people everywhere, our lawmakers especially, of the significance of science for our health and prosperity.”

This year’s drastic decline in Antarctic sea ice perplexes scientists

This year’s drastic decline in Antarctic sea ice perplexes scientists

Sea ice surrounding the Antarctic continent has been extraordinarily stable amid increasing global warming, but this year sea ice at the South Pole is crashing, and researchers are struggling to find out the precise cause.

Antarctica sea ice typically hits its annual minimum during late summer every year. But this year’s minimum level of sea ice has marked a dramatic new record.

List of Rarest Minerals proves Earth’s Mineralogy is Unique in Cosmos

Discovery of Rarest Minerals proves Earth’s Mineralogy is Unique in Cosmos

We all know that earth is the only habitable planet in the observable universe, but it’s not the only thing that makes our home planet unique. It has more than 5,000 known minerals, and out of them, roughly 2,500 are the rarest minerals in terms of both abundance and location.

Rare minerals like cobaltominite, edoylerite and abelsonite make the blue planet unique. These may be present far from our reach, protected in caves or vanish in the first rainfall, as per researchers of a new study on earth’s minerals.

Scientists and bioethicists raise concern over use of CRISPR-CAS9 to create ‘designer babies’

Scientists and bioethicists raise concern over use of CRISPR-CAS9 to create ‘des

Scientists gathered in Washington-DC for the International Summit on Human Gene Editing this week. They discussed a technology known as CRISPR-CAS9, which can place in, remove and alter the DNA of mainly any organism.

The technology is relatively easy, cheap and correct, and many laboratories worldwide have been using it to make cells and breed laboratory animals, using modified DNA for researches related to diseases.

CRISPR may also be used for modifying DNA in human embryos, but the query is that whether it should be allowed or not.

Researchers Could Soon Develop Faster Computers Using New Optical Device

Researchers Could Soon Develop Faster Computers Using New Optical Device

Researchers have developed a new optical device that could lead to development of new and more powerful computers that run faster and cooler. An essential component of new computers has been developed to run on light. The credit for the development of the device goes to researchers at Washington University in St Louis.

Significant improvements could be done to many other fields, like electronics, acoustics, plasmonics and meta-materials, because of the new discovery, said Lan Yang, an associate professor of electrical and systems engineering at Washington University.

Scientists Discovers‘Planetary Candidates’ while Searching for Moons using Kepler Space Telescope

Scientists Discovers‘Planetary Candidates’ while Searching for Moons using Keple

NASA's Kepler telescope found several ‘planetary candidates’ in our Milky Way during its four-year mission. Several ‘planetary candidates’ were found to be surrounded by gas. One planet has been named KOI-314c and has the same weight but is 60% larger than earth.

KOI-314c is supposed to have a thick gaseous atmosphere, thereby making the planet merely 30% denser than water. The temperature of the planet is about 104 deg C, which cannot help in sustenance of most life forms on Earth.

Astronomers Discovers a Unique Triple Star System

Astronomers Discovers a Unique Triple Star System

An exclusive triple star system has been discovered by astronomers. The system could disclose the exact nature of gravity. The astronomers have found a pulsar along with two white dwarfs. The whole system is packed in a space which is smaller as compared to Earth's orbit of the Sun.

The trio's extraordinarily close orbits permit exact measurements of gravity and could rectify complexities with Einstein's theories.
