In an announcement made on Wednesday, bigwig South Korean device maker LG Electronics and beleaguered German automaker Volkswagen (VW) said that they have signed an agreement to jointly develop a connected, cloud-based car service platform.

According to the two companies, the connected-car service platform which they plan to build jointly will be the “the next generation” of connected-car services.

The agreement between LG and VW to build a new connected-car service platform is threefold.

German newspaper Bild am Sonntag revealed in a Sunday report that the senior managers at the bigwig European automaker -- including its former CEO Martin Winterkorn -- had received an internal letter, by a high-ranking VW employee, warning them about a possible US diesel probe.

The warning letter by the high-ranking VW employee -- internally known as 'Winterkorn's fireman' -- was sent out in May 2014 -- more than one year before VW's US diesel emissions scandal came to light in September 2015.

German carmaker Volkswagen AG announced that it will recall 1,950 diesel vehicles in China that were affected in the emission scandal that has hit the company recently. The company will correct the defeat device software that allowed its vehicles to cheat on emissions tests.

Volkswagen on Monday said in a statement that the recall will be applied to 1,946 Tiguan sport utility vehicles and four Passat B6 sedans equipped with the four-cylinder Type EA 189 diesel engine.
