Google releases iOS version of Cardboard Camera app

In a Monday announcement, tech biggie Google said that the availability of its Cardboard Camera app is being expanded to Apple’s iOS platform. The app – which enables users to create 360-degree virtual reality VR images – was thus far available only on Android.

Announcing that the Cardboard Camera app is now available on the Apple App Store, Google said that the app can be used for iPad and iPhone users to click beautiful VR photos and share them with their family and friends.

Chris Urmson, an important member of the team behind Google’s self-driving car, is leaving the company. In 2009, Urmson, a Carnegie Mellon University research scientist, joined Google to help the company in its mission of develop a self-driving car, which at that time was a top-secret.

He took the charge of the team involved in self-driving car after Sebastian Thrun, founder of Google X laboratory, left the company in 2013. Urmson is quitting the position after Google took decision last year to hire John Krafcik, chief executive of Hyundai America, to head the car project.

In a Thursday announcement, tech giant Google said that the Unicode Consortium -- a nonprofit organization which develops and promotes software internationalization standards -- has plans underway to add 11 new “professional” emoji characters which will depict both male and female workers performing different jobs.

The Unicode Consortium plan to introduce 11 new “professional” emoji characters is largely based on a proposal which Google had submitted to the organization in May this year. Google is one of the prominent members of the Unicode Consortium.
