On Thursday, social network Facebook's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg met with India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the country's Information Technology and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, in New Delhi.

At the meeting, Facebook and India's government decided to work closely together on health and education initiatives in the country.

Facebook's Slingshot- a messaging app will now be available internationally. One can download this free app from the app stores around the world for iPhone (iOS7) and Android (Jelly Bean and KitKat).

The Slingshot app will allow users to take photos, videos and then add drawings or funny comments or write captions to them. The concept of `sling' comes into the picture as one has to sling any of the above things to a contact and the other person cannot see a `sling' until they also sling something back to the sender.

Facebook releases its first workforce diversity report

Social network Facebook has recently released its first-ever workforce diversity report, revealing that the company is largely dominated by white men --- a trend which is seen across most of the tech firms in the US Silicon Valley.

According to the figures shared by Facebook in its workforce diversity report, male employees comprise 70 percent of the Facebook workforce; with white employees comprising 57 percent of the workforce, and Asians accounting for 34 percent.

An all new "Breakthrough Prizes" for mathematics have announced its first five winners for their groundbreaking work. The organizers describe the awards as the "biggest science awards in the world" as they offer the biggest prize money - $3m (£1.76m) for each.

This ($3.2m) award is bankrolled by Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and Russian venture capitalist Yuri Milner.

These awards are believed to be a sharp answer to the Nobel prizes which are not open to mathematicians and offer a paltry of $1.3m which is much less than that of these new awards.

Sony’s Project Morpheus VR to take on Facebook’s Oculus headset

The scheduled proceedings at the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on Monday night included the showcasing of the Project Morpheus virtual reality (VR) headset by Sony. The Morpheus works with the PS4, which has improved hardware and high-definition audio.

With Sony developing the Project Morpheus VR headset for the gaming market, the headset will essentially challenge the Oculus Rift VR headset from the pioneer of VR goggles, Oculus VR, which has now been acquired by Facebook.

According to a TechCrunch report, Apple has acquired 'social search engine' startup Spotsetter which enables users to search for places and gives them recommendations for places where they may be interested to explore.

To offer its services as a social search engine, Spotsetter essentially adds social data - through Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, and Instagram, among others - and venue-review data to maps for recommending places to the users.
