Study: There’s definitely a sweet spot when it comes to sexual frequency and hap

As per a study published on Wednesday in the journal of Psychological and Personality Science, there’s for sure a sweet spot if we talk about sexual frequency and happiness. Surprisingly it appears to be roughly once a week.

For the study, the University of Toronto Mississauga researchers went through the data from the US General Social Survey (GSS), which has gathered data on over 25,000 Americans between the age-group 18- 89 years, since 1972.

During the study, the researchers analyzed marital/relationship status, sexual frequency over the last 12 months, using numbers as 0 = not at all, 1 = once or twice, 2 = once a month, 3 = 2–3 times in 30 days, 4 = weekly, 5 = 2–3 times in 7 days, and 6 = 4 or more times every week, and happiness, by using numbers as 1 = not too happy, 2 = pretty happy, and 3 = very happy.

After analyzing they found that in the case of people in relationships, there’s a positive trend between happiness and sexual frequency, but just up to a certain point. The paper read, “there was a significant linear relationship between sexual frequency and well-being for people having sex once a week or less… and no association for people having sex more than once a week”.

They discovered that the trends were consistent across both men and women, and in all age groups. The factor that didn’t matter much was the relationship status of people. Among the people who said that they were ‘not in a relationship’, no trend was observed between sexual frequency and happiness.
