The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has announced that it has entered into a partnership with Hyderabad-based National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) for crucial satellite data for enhancing its disaster management capabilities through geo-spatial services.
The NRSC, which is a part of the Indian space Research Organisation, will provide real-time location data to NDRF personnel on mobile devices. The two organisations have entered into a five-year Memorandum of Understanding. Under the MoU, the NRSC has agreed to build a dedicated portal for the NDRF with GIS information that will help NDRFimprove the quality of its response to any disaster.
The NRSC has also said that it will provide training to NDRF personnel in using remote sensing applications and utilisation of geo-spatial tools in disaster management. The agency will share apps developed under the National Disaster Emergency Management programme with the NDRF. The apps will be crucial during response and relief efforts while they will also be utilised for feeding field data during the operations.
"The force is committed to improve the quality of disaster response with the pace of time and signing of MoU with the NRSC would prove cornerstone in launching specialised disaster response which would be technology- driven," NDRF Director General Singh.
