According to a CNET report, bigwig Japanese device maker Sony has confirmed that it has discontinued the shipping of PlayStation Vita TV (PS Vita TV or, simply, PS TV) micro-console to the US and Europe markets.
Going by the information shared by a Sony spokesperson with CNET, the shipments of PS TV in Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) were "terminated at the end of 2015."
Earlier, Sony had announced that it will stop selling the PS TV in Japan. The recent confirmation by the company about a similar fate for the international version of the PS TV implies that Sony plans to discontinue the device worldwide.
Sony's decision to kill the PS TV comes in just over two years after the official launch of the device, initially in Japan, in November
2013.
Though Sony has not given any explanation about the reason behind its move to discontinue the shipping of PS TV worldwide, it is being widely speculated by analysts that the move is rooted in the fact that the device has been witnessing lackluster sales.
