Obama likely to announce New Executive Plan on Sharing of Cyber security Threats and Information

Barack Obama

It is highly probable that the President Barack Obama will announce a new plan with regard to sharing of cyber-security threats and information at cybersecurity summit at Stanford University, which will be held on Friday.

It is considered that the president's executive action will strengthen the role of Department of Homeland Security as the government lead for information-sharing with the private sector.

Greg Nojime, a senior counsel with the Center for Democracy and Technology in Washington D. C, said that there are expectations that the rules will stop the phenomenon of using information being used for surveillance.

Things are expected to become better in the hands of Homeland Security and will pacify Valley companies. It has been said so as the revelations by Edward Snowden about the level of NSA surveillance led to anger and anxiety among businessmen.

In fact, the privacy and protection of the information has now become a matter of concern for many customers. And, this is the reason that many tech companies have to deal with push backs from their customers in the United States and other nations.

Man aim of the executive action was to come up with a process that explains rules of information sharing between the privacy sector and the government. As per Nojime, the plan would be in the form of a hub-and-spoke system. The companies would share information with the government and it would be then sent back to other companies.

Avivah Litan, a security analyst at the technology research company Gartner, said that there is no meaningful intelligence sharing, as there is always a fear of lawsuits. The only way to make information sharing possible is to come up with safe legal harbors, where companies can reveal what they know without fearing that it would put them at risk.
