MTN Nigeria Selects Ericsson for Local Market Managed Services

MTN Nigeria has selected Ericsson for five year managed services including optimization, management and field maintenance of 75% of MTN infrastructure in Nigeria. The financial details of the deal were not revealed by MTN or Ericsson.

Nigerian telecom operators have been blamed by the telecom authorities for issues with connectivity and network availability. Many service providers have been fined by the telecom regulator for providing low quality services. Earlier NewsTonight reported Nigerian government considering ban on sale of new SIM cards in the country. The telecom subscriber base has registered steady growth in the country.

Ericsson will manage network of MTN Nigeria in Lagos, Asaba, Abuja, Enugu and Port Harcourt. MTN is the largest telecom services provider in Nigeria.

MTN Nigeria CEO Michael Ikpoki informed that MTN would continue to improve its services in Nigeria. MTN is committed to provide world class network connectivity. The company operates in many countries across Africa.

MTN Nigeria will focus on its core business and improving consumer experience. MTN will retain ownership of infrastructure and network assets. Ericsson manages network in more than 100 countries worldwide. Ericsson is having the biggest market share in Africa.
