Technologic and media giants have joined together to use spare spectrum to boost mobile broadband. Companies like Microsoft and BT have decided that they will utilize the white space spectrum to create Wi-Fi networks which can be offered to rural broadband.

"Spectrum is a finite natural resource. We can't make more and we must use it efficiently and wisely”, Dan Reed, Microsoft's Vice President of Technology Policy and Strategy, told the newspaper.

PayPal is seeing an incredible increase in mobile payments that they were not expecting. Initially, the company was estimating a $1.5 billion increase, which they revised to $2 billion in February; however, their latest estimate is double what they had original planned.

Laura Chambers, Senior Director of PayPal Mobile, stated on PayPal's blog, “Mobile payments are growing at a rate we never could have imagined when we started processing them back in 2006 – in fact, this is the third time we’ ve had to update our mobile 2011 projections”.

LulzSec hacker group says it is ending its cyberattacking spree

In a Twitter message posted on June 25, the LulzSec hacking group said that it is ending a series of cyberattacks which started nearly two months back; under which the hackers compromised the websites of Sony Corp., the US Senate, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and the UK’s Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA).

Saying that the Twitter post was its “final release,” the LulzSec group – short for Lulz Security – added: “Our planned 50 day cruise has expired, and we must now sail into the distance.”

Charles Darwin’s personal library has been launched online with the help of Missouri Botanical Garden. The online library will enable the readers to read Darwin’s texts that may have influenced the manuscripts. The online library has been made available for the users at www. biodiversitylibrary. org/collection/darwinlibrary.

The library was jointly sponsored by the Joint Information Systems Committee and National Endowment of the Humanities through a Transatlantic Digitization Collaboration Grant.
