Nintendo ordered to pay $10M to iLife in patent infringement suit

The American arm of mobile video game giant Nintendo suffered a tough legal blow on Thursday when a jury in Dallas, Texas, ruled that Nintendo of America infringed on iLife’s patented technology.

The jury also awarded $10 million to iLife. The patent in question is iLife’s motion-sensing accelerometer technology that Nintendo used in its Wii Remote controllers.

The patented technology was designed by iLife to detect when an elderly individual fell as well as to monitor babies for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

Responding to issues related to the failure of the “Pokémon Go” event in Chicago, Niantic CEO John Hanke said his company was committed to listening to even harsh feedback to improve what it does.

Hanke was responding to allegations that the game developer hadn’t effectively prepared for last Saturday’s Pokémon Go event, which was attended by more than 20,000 people but was plagued by technical issues.

The technical issues made the popular video game unplayable for many of the attendees, leading to boos and shouts from the large crowd.

Close on the heels of the release of the PC version of stellar cyberpunk stealth-adventure game ‘Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’ on Wednesday, the first update to the newly-released version was rolled out by Eidos Montreal on Thursday, to resolve a number of issues with the game.

In announcing the update to the PC version of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided game, Eidos Montreal said that the update brings up the v1.0 build 524.7 of the game; and added that it chiefly focuses on "critical issues users ran into immediately following release."

In a recent announcement, Electronic Arts (EA) and developer BioWare have revealed that a new digital expansion for free-to-play PC MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic is scheduled to hit the markets on December 9. The cost of the expansion at launch will be $20.

The new expansion of the 2011-launched The Old Republic game will be called 'Shadow of Revan.' Featuring new story-centric missions, the expansion will unfold five new levels of story content; and will also feature a raised level cap of 60, as well as a number of other new endgame content.
