Malaysia Airlines suspends Trading in its Shares

Struggling Malaysian Airlines (MAS) revealed on Friday that it is suspending trading in its shares. The news came out before an announcement was made later in the day on restructuring plan to enable the carrier remain afloat following two devastating air tragedies.

State investment fund Khazanah Nasional, owner of 70% of Malaysia Airlines, made the announcement for plans of delisting and taking the airline private. Now, it is expected that the plans pertinent to reforms will be announced during a press briefing at 3.00pm.

Air Berlin Calls Investors to Invest €450m for Restructuring

Air Berlin, German low-cost airline, has requested investors to invest €450m to finance a 'comprehensive restructuring' of the business. The airline does not want its own ownership structure to be affected, after facing loss last year.

Etihad Airways, main shareholder of the airline, has subscribed to a subordinated bond worth €300m, which will issue a new bond of at least €150m. Etihad will offer new bonds with maturity in 2019 and will make exchange offer to bondholders with notes due in 2014 and 2015.

The European Centre for Allergy Research Foundation (ECARF) has declared Swiss International Air Lines as the world's first airline to be ‘allergy friendly’. The airline offers an individualized service product for travelers with allergies.

It will offer its passengers lactose and gluten-free food and beverage alternatives such as lactose-free coffee cream and a lactose-free version of the popular Swiss chocolate bar. Moreover, the pillows in airlines will be stuffed with synthetic materials as an alternative to down in the first and business class cabins.

Comair Orders 8 Boeing 737 Max

Comair Limited has ordered eight Boeing 737 MAX 8 airplanes as per the official statement released by CEO Erik Venter. The order has been valued at $830 million. Comair has become the first African airline to upgrade its fleet with 737 Max.

The order was booked by Boeing in December 2013. Comair will get the delivery of four planes by 2019 and 4 more by 2021.

Comair stock was trading with gain of nearly 3 percent in Johannesburg. The stock has given more than 35% returns to investors in 2014. Comair increased fares by 17 per cent last year.

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. has come up with its all-new faster and more efficient blimp, the first change in 45 years, which will fly the skies later this month. The new blimp, technically called as zeppelin or GZ-20, is capable of performing high-profile outdoor events when it tours the country.

ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik, Friedrichshafen, Germany-based company has designed the blimp, usually termed as an airship with non-rigid inflatable balloon. The GZ-20, so-called ‘new technology’ (NT) zeppelin, is a semi-rigid skeleton holding up helium gasbag.

Cathay Pacific plane lands at Johannesburg Airport due to bird strike

Cathay Pacific has informed that a Boeing 747-400 plane had to make an emergency landing at Johannesburg after a bird strike moments after take-off. The flight bound for Hong Kong from O. R. Tambo International Airport Johannesburg made a safe landing as the pilot decided to return.

Cathay Pacific official statement said that the plane encountered multiple bird strikes. The captain decided to make a U-turn shortly after take-off.

Flight CX748 for Hong Kong International Airport on Sunday was rescheduled.

The plane had 213 passengers and 21 crew members.
