Samsung to build long-range car batteries

Korean electronics giant Samsung has revealed its plans to start producing long-range car batteries, a move that will place the company in direct competition with the likes of Tesla. Samsung SDI, the Korean company’s battery division, did not reveal details about its battery packs, but some reports suggested that its battery packs will be similar to Tesla’s small, cylindrical batteries that are coming fitted in its Model 3 e-cars.

Luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled its new artificial-intelligence (AI)-based steering wheel that can be featured in the company’s self-driving cars in the future. The AI-based steering wheel dubbed Sayer would not be used to steer the car; rather it would serve as a system capable of hooking up with the autonomous/self-driving car a person is travelling in.

Unlike other self driving concepts that are removing the steering wheel as well as pedals, Jaguar decided to retain the steering wheel, albeit as a portable device that can be carried from one vehicle to another.

Betting big on cruisers, the luxury motorcycle brand Harley-Davidson has announced its decision to turn eight of its bestselling Dyna motorbikes into new Softail bikes.

The decision aims to attracting new riders and retain existing riders riding Harley-Davidson bikes longer.

The Dyna line of bikes that will be turned into the Softail family in 2018 include Fat Boy, Heritage Classic, Low Rider, Fat Bob, Street Bob, Softail Slim, Deluxe and Breakout.

Luxury carmaker BMW’s next-generation M5 car will be an all-wheel-drive with a powerful engine capable of producing roughly 600bhp, leaked reports suggested.

According to leaked reports and images, the next-generation BMW M5 will come equipped with a 4.4-litre V8 engine that will be tweaked to produce nearly 600bhp. Its xDrive all-wheel-drive setup will put it squarely against the new Mercedes-AMG E 63 S.

French carmaker Renault has confirmed that it has signed a new joint venture (JV) deal with Iranian entities to manufacture more than 150,000 cars annually in the country.

As part of the deal, Renault will work with Iranian partners Industrial Development & Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) and Parto Negin Naseh to produce cars.

It may be noted here that Parto Negin Naseh has already been a key Iranian importer of Renault products. Renault is already producing 200,000 vehicles per year in the country.

Ford announces recalls for Ford Ikon and Figo over fire risk

Ford has announced recall for 15,600 Ford Ikon and Figo cars in South African market due to fire risk. The vehicles sold in South Africa were manufactured at Ford facility in India between year 2004 and 2012. Ford said that the company will offer free replacement for vehicles impacted in the current recall.

The company said that due to a risk of leakage of power steering fluid, there is a chance of fumes being emitted from the engine compartment. This can lead to further damage and fire in extreme cases, the official statement informed.

He also clarified that the Model 3 e-car is not a successor to the existing Model S. Model 3 is only a smaller, more affordable version of Model S w. The Model S comes equipped with more superior technology.
